Some wedding days feel like so much more than a wedding. They feel like a gathering of hearts, a celebration of answered prayers, and a reminder of just how beautiful it is to have your favourite people in one place.
Doanne & Jacques’ wedding in Bloemfontein, in the heart of the Free State, was exactly that.
When Doanne spoke about what she wanted their wedding day to feel like, she described it as a feast. And I don't think there is a better word for it. They wanted a big celebration, a day filled with their people, intentional moments, and so much joy. Especially because Jacques had waited a long time for this day to finally arrive!
And when it did, it was everything a celebration of this kind should be: heartfelt, joyful, and filled with the kind of love that makes you want to hold on to every little moment.
A feast for the heart
There was something so special about this Afrikaans wedding. The warmth of the people, the emotion woven throughout the day, and the excitement of bringing everyone together to celebrate Doanne & Jacques.
It wasn't simply about having a beautiful wedding. It was about celebrating something they had been looking forward to for a long time. It was about sharing this milestone with the people who had walked alongside them, loved them, and become part of their story.
And you could feel how much it all meant.
A father's heart
One of the most touching moments of the day was seeing Doanne's dad when he first saw her.
He was emotional, and it was one of those moments that says so much without needing many words. There is something incredibly moving about seeing a dad look at his daughter on her wedding day. In that moment, there is so much love, so much history, and so many memories held between two people.
It's a reminder that a wedding isn't only about two people choosing each other. It's also about the people who have loved them all along, and the emotions that come with watching someone you love step into a new chapter.
These are the moments I hope Doanne & Jacques will treasure for years to come. The ones that bring back not only what happened, but how deeply they were loved.
A gift, a prayer, and a pair of pearl earrings
And then there was the story of the pearl earrings.
Jacques gave Doanne a pair of pearl earrings as a gift, but what made them so meaningful was something she shared about the story behind them.
Doanne had never told Jacques, but she had once prayed to God that one day her husband would give her pearl earrings.
And then, on her wedding day, there they were.
I love little stories like this because they remind us that sometimes the most meaningful details are the ones no one else would ever know about unless we took the time to ask. To anyone else, they might simply be a beautiful pair of earrings. But to Doanne, they carried a much deeper meaning: a quiet prayer, a hope she had held in her heart, and a moment she got to experience with the man she would spend her life with.
There is something so special about the way our stories unfold. Sometimes the details that mean the most to us are the smallest ones, and sometimes they become part of a day we will remember forever.
For me, this is what makes wedding photography so meaningful. I get to preserve not only the things everyone sees, but also the little pieces of a couple's story that make their day uniquely theirs.
The joy of finally being here
After all the waiting, the planning, and the anticipation, Doanne & Jacques finally got to celebrate their marriage surrounded by their favourite people.
And what a celebration it was.
A day filled with heartfelt moments, joyful people, meaningful details, and so much love. A day that felt like a feast in every sense of the word.
Doanne & Jacques, thank you for allowing me to be part of such a special chapter in your story. I hope that when you look back at these photographs years from now, you remember the emotion in your dad's eyes, the meaning behind those pearl earrings, the joy of having everyone together, and the feeling of finally getting to celebrate the day you had both been waiting for.
May your marriage be filled with the same warmth, intention, and abundant love that surrounded you on your wedding day.
With love,
Cheney
